So, you’re in the market for your very own DEVO Energy Dome for the upcoming 80s party, Halloween, or just to wear to work to be more efficient. I’m guessing you have no time to buy one, or you just want to be creative and get some attention. Well, you’re about to be the big hit at whatever function you’re about to attend – you may even get that fat raise you’ve been hoping  for!

Here’s what you’ll need (from any hobby/craft store): 2 styrofoam rings (flat wreaths), 3 styrofoam discs (3 different sizes – 10″, 8″, 6″), hot glue, red spray paint (styrofoam friendly)
Price: $30
Time: 15 minutes + 1 hour dry time of spray paint

Basically, stack everything up and glue it together – but there is an order to this madness. Obviously from top to bottom you will start with the 6″, 8″, then 10″ discs. Then put the flat sides of the “flat wreath’s” together (so the rounded ends face away from each other). Then, glue that bad boy together.

If this takes you longer than 10 minutes, something may be wrong, or you’ve started the DEVO party too early and the alcohol is taking its effect on the Energy Dome-less body.

I rounded the corners of the discs so they weren’t so pointy, but this isn’t necessary – just thought it looked nicer.

Now go spay some fire engine red paint on that white dome. Let this sit for an hour or so to make sure you don’t turn you or your friends red.

You may want to wear a headband (red) or put something soft in the hat so you don’t rub the skin off your forehead (lesson learned).

For the rest of the outfit:
• I picked up the Indiana Jones hat/whip package at Party City for $15 – now I’ve got the wicked hat for leisure wear around bars.
• I got a black turtle neck and black shorts at a thrift store for 5 bucks total!
• I had some shooting safety goggles already, but you can pick up some racket ball goggles, swimming goggles, or any kind of crazy clear eye wear will do).
• I also had black socks and shoes to fit the bill.

So, total for me was about 50 bucks. A bit pricey, but not too shabby considering how much fun it was. And if that’s too much, make the hat and slip into that emergency yellow rain suit in the back of your car. Hey – this is an emergency (and you can put it back). Tape the letters D-E-V-O onto the suit with electrical tape, and you’re done!
